What is Lip Blushing?
Lip blushing, also known as watercolor lips or aquarelle lip blush, is a semi-permanent tattoo procedure that uses specialized pigments to enhance the color, shape, and definition of your lips. This cosmetic procedure is perfect for clients looking to:
Enhance their natural lip color
Create a fuller appearance without the need for fillers
Correct lip asymmetry or discoloration
Define the lip borders without the use of lip liner
Achieve a natural "flush" effect, making lips appear youthful and plump
The treatment can be done in a variety of styles, allowing you to achieve the lip look that suits your individual preferences.
Why Choose Lip Blushing?
At Elysium, we believe in providing not only aesthetic beauty but also convenience and ease. There are numerous benefits to lip blushing that go beyond what traditional lip makeup can offer. Here are some of the key advantages of this treatment:
Smudge-Proof, Waterproof Color
Forget about reapplying lipstick throughout the day. Lip blush tattoos provide you with long-lasting, smudge-proof, and waterproof color that stays intact, even during workouts, rainy days, or swimming.
Effortless, Natural Appearance
Lip blush offers a soft, natural tint to your lips, enhancing their shape and color without looking overdone. It’s perfect for anyone who desires a more subtle enhancement that blends naturally with their skin tone.
Youthful, Fuller Lips
Lip blushing gives the appearance of fuller lips, even without the use of lip fillers. This non-invasive procedure restores color and definition, helping lips appear plumper and more youthful.
Time-Saving Solution
With lip blushing, you’ll save time every morning. You no longer need to worry about lip liners, lipstick, or reapplying throughout the day. Wake up with perfect lips every day!
No More Smudged Lipstick
One of the most frustrating parts of traditional lipstick is when it smudges or fades throughout the day. Lip blush tattoos are smudge-proof, allowing you to go through your day without worrying about your lip color.
Correct Lip Discoloration
Lip blushing can also correct uneven pigmentation, restore natural color to pale lips, and camouflage scars or dark spots. It’s an ideal solution for anyone who has had discoloration or for those with lips that have become pale due to age, smoking, or sun exposure.
Elysium’s Lip Blushing Process
When you come to Elysium Cosmetic Tattoo and Academy for lip blushing, you can expect a detailed and professional process that ensures comfort and beautiful results.
1. Consultation
Your journey begins with a thorough consultation. We discuss your aesthetic goals, assess your natural lip shape and color, and determine the best technique and pigment color for you. During the consultation, we’ll explain everything about the procedure, from preparation to aftercare, and answer any questions you may have.
2. Numbing
We prioritize your comfort throughout the procedure. Prior to starting the lip blush process, we apply a topical numbing cream to the lips to minimize any discomfort during the procedure. This ensures you feel at ease while our experts work on creating your perfect lips.
3. Tattoo Application
Using specialized tools, we apply the pigment to your lips in multiple layers. The process typically takes 2-3 hours, depending on the intricacy of the design and the style of lip blush chosen. Your artist will work carefully to create a natural, even tint that enhances the contours and overall look of your lips.
4. Post-Care
After your lip blushing session, we will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and lasting results. Post-care is critical to ensure that the pigment heals properly and that your lips look perfect after the initial healing period.
Types of Lip Blush Styles Offered at Elysium Cosmetic Tattoo and Academy
At Elysium Cosmetic Tattoo and Academy, we offer several different styles of lip blushing, so you can choose the one that best suits your personal style and desired result.
Permanent Lipstick
For clients who want a bold, lip-filling look that mimics the appearance of permanent lipstick, this technique delivers vibrant, full color. Whether you’re looking for a classic red, soft pink, or nude, permanent lipstick is ideal for those who want to eliminate the hassle of traditional lipstick.
Permanent Lip Liner
This technique focuses on defining the lip border to create a well-defined, precise outline that enhances the natural shape of your lips. Ideal for those who like a more subtle enhancement, permanent lip liner provides a defined, crisp look without the need for traditional lip liners.
Permanent Lip Color
For those who want a more natural, full-coverage lip enhancement, permanent lip color is the perfect choice. This technique adds a natural, tinted look to the lips, whether you desire something soft or a bit more vibrant.
Lip Neutralization
If you have dark or uneven lips, lip neutralization can help even out your lip tone by neutralizing dark spots and restoring a more balanced, natural lip color. We use special techniques to tone down any unwanted pigment, leaving you with a flawless, even result.
Pre and Post-Care Instructions for Lip Blushing
To achieve the best possible results, it’s important to follow the pre- and post-care instructions that we provide.
Pre-Care for Lip Blushing
Hydrate Your Lips: Ensure that your lips are well-hydrated and free from dryness or chapping before the procedure. Drink plenty of water 5+ days before the treatment.
Avoid Stimulants: Refrain from alcohol, caffeine, and other stimulants 24 hours before your appointment to minimize swelling and enhance healing.
No Sun or Tanning: Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds 1 week prior to the procedure.
No Retin-A: If you’re using Retin-A or other exfoliating products, please discontinue use at least 4 weeks prior to your lip blush appointment.
Avoid Blood Thinners: Do not take aspirin, niacin, or fish oil 48 hours before the procedure.
Rest: Make sure you are well-rested before your appointment, as being fatigued can impact healing.
Post-Care for Lip Blushing
Moisturize: Use a healing ointment, such as Aquaphor or coconut oil, to keep your lips moisturized during the healing process.
Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Protect your lips from the sun for at least 4 weeks to prevent premature fading or scarring.
No Kissing or Friction: Refrain from kissing or engaging in activities that cause friction on your lips (such as eating large sandwiches) for at least 5 days after the procedure.
Touch Up: Your lip color will likely fade by up to 50% in the first few days as the skin heals, so it’s important to follow all aftercare instructions to ensure the best color retention.
Knoxville Lip Blushing FAQs
-
Lip blush typically lasts between 1 to 2 years before you need a touch-up. The longevity of the color depends on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and how well you follow the aftercare instructions.
After the initial healing, you’ll notice a gradual fade in the color intensity. To maintain your lip blush results, we recommend scheduling a touch-up every 1 to 2.5 years.
-
If you desire fuller, more defined lips or need to restore color to pale or uneven lips, lip blushing may be the perfect solution for you. It’s also ideal for anyone tired of reapplying lip makeup throughout the day or for those with limited time for daily makeup application. Whether you want to enhance your lips with a natural, soft tint or bold, vivid color, lip blushing can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted.
-
A minimum of 6 weeks post-filler is required before your lip blush appointment. It is recommended to have the permanent lip enhancement first and then wait until your lips have healed before receiving lip filler injections.
-
You and your artist will discuss which colors suit you based on your natural lip color, skin tone, and lifestyle. Once your lips have healed, you can still enhance or change the color with conventional makeup. Your new lip tattoo serves as a base, so there’s no need to discard your favorite lip products.
-
Your lips will appear swollen and slightly larger than usual, resembling the effect of a mild lip filler injection. The degree of swelling varies from person to person. The pigment will look darker initially, similar to bold lipstick. Over the first few days, the size of your lips will return to normal, and the color will fade by up to 50%. You may lose color on the inside of your lips first, with the edges retaining color the longest. Immediately after the procedure, your lips will feel dry, chapped, tight, and tender to the touch, similar to the sensation of a sunburn.
-
Expect moderate swelling for up to three days following the procedure. Lip pigment color may fade by up to 50% during the first few days. As your lips heal, they may appear spotty due to oxidation of the pigment and skin regeneration. Your lips will be fully healed in 6 weeks, at which point you can schedule your 6-12 week perfecting touch-up.
-
We recommend touch-ups every 1-2.5 years to maintain the best results.
-
Several factors can influence the final result of your lip tattoo:
Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during the procedure can reduce pigment absorption.
Sun Exposure: The sun can soften the appearance of your lip tattoo and alter the color of the pigment. It’s highly recommended to use sunscreen or chapstick when exposed to sunlight or tanning beds.
Lifestyle: Smokers, sun lovers, or individuals with skin in a distressed state may experience less desirable results.
Sun & Tanning Beds: Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 2 weeks before and after the procedure. Sunburn will exfoliate the skin, which can carry the pigment away. We reserve the right to turn away clients with fresh tans or sunburns.
-
Touch-Up Appointments: While optional, touch-ups are recommended to maintain your desired look. If you choose not to maintain your tattoo, the color will gradually fade over time. The rate of fading depends on your skin type, tone, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color, and overall health. We recommend scheduling a touch-up every 1-2.5 years for the best results.
MRI: If you’re scheduled for an MRI, please inform the technician that you have an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo.
Laser Treatments: If you plan to undergo laser treatments, cover your lip tattoo with 20% zinc oxide to prevent premature fading of your tattoo.
Brightening or Acidic Skincare: If you’re using brightening or acidic skincare products (such as AHA, retinol, peels, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid), apply Vaseline to your lip tattoo before use to avoid premature fading of the pigment.
-
Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo. Once a client has contracted herpes virus, it remains dormant in the system throughout their lifetime and will become active if the immune system is compromised. If you have had a cold sore in the past, we advise receiving a script from your doctor for an antiviral oral medication prior to any lip procedure as a preventative. Another option is to purchase an over-the-counter antiviral cream called acyclovir ointment and apply to the area as follows: 5 times a day for 5 days pre-treatment and 5 times a day for 5 days post-treatment.
Regardless of having had a history of cold sores, we recommend all clients take l-lysine (vitamin) 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk.
